OMNI what?
Does anyone know the dates that OMNI IV, V, VI, VII started?
My PVS-14 was mfg by ITT (13567) in 2005. Warranty expired 8/07

Omni VII
The Omni VII specification was released on 18th April, 2005 for the MX-11769.

MIL-PRF-A3256363D(CR)

But only by looking at your tube will you know for sure -

Does t make a high-pitched whining noise that changes slightly when looking from dark areas to light areas?

David.

Whine
ITT said it was autogated and it does have a high pitched whine that can be heard if I put my ear to it. The pitch seems to change with varying light as you said. Thanks cj

pvs14 p/n
The guy at ITT said the unit p/n was A3256337-10. I was able to see p/n that were similar but with -5 or -8 on the end. makes me wonder what the -10 refers to.

-5 = Omni V, -20 = Omni VII

I‘m guessing Omni VI - Only flex would know for sure.

Tube details
Decided I would open the AN/PVS-14 to see if it was actually what ITT said it was because he had told me before it was a F9815K. It is a F9815AG according to the tube itself s/n 763190. that is the only thing on the tube from the eyecup side. I didn‘t take out the objective lens. Would there be anything on that side of the tube?

F9815AG tube
I, too, was not able to find anything about p/n A3256337-10 but as you have already opened the unit, it is not required anymore..

Some corrections would be required here.. First, the tube was obviously manufactured later, in mid 2006. Second, civilian tubes do not comply to any OMNI classifications, OMNI (OMNIBUS) is only selected for military tubes.

F9815AG‘s minimum assured specs are 64 lp/mm, 1800 micA/lm and SNR 22 or more, Halo max 1.1mm, luminous gain 40000 fL/fc. One 0.06-0.09‘ or two 0.03-0.06‘ spots allowed in zone 2. That being said, it is similar to MilSpec OMNIBUS IV standard but with autogated PSU.

OMNI IV
Thanks Flex, So you‘re saying Pinnacle was out when OMNI IV was in affect? This F9815AG is pinnacle, but comspec and milspec doesn‘t necessarily change hand in hand at the same time, so I guess its mute. Either way it works well for what I use it for. - Mark

Copy of MIL-PRF-A3256363D CR
I have not been able to lay my hands on a copy of the subject document through normal channels. Typically, MIL-documents are available on-line. How can i get ahold of this document (MIL-PRF-A3256363D(CR))? Papa Kilo

F9815AG specs
Mark, nope, there is no tube that would be Pinnacle OMNI IV. The first Pinnacles came in under OMNI V (DAAB07-98-C-J419), these were ITT MX-10160B/AVS-6 (80063-A3279593, NSN 5855-01-473-6076).

All other Pinnacles came under OMNI VI, these are MX-11769/UV (80063-A3297320, NSN 5855-01-504-4590) and MX-10130D(+)/UV (80063-A3297300, NSN 5855-01-504-4589)

Your F9815AG is a Pinnacle, yes, but Comspec tubes have nothing in common with OMNIBUS contracts, this is a completely different story. F9815AG has minimum specs 64 lp/mm, 1800 micA/lm and SNR 22, one 0.006-0.009in spot in zone 2 or two 0.006-0.009in spots in zone 3 are allowed and that‘s about it, no OMNI which is purely military thing.
