Best make of PVS-14?
Hi all,

I have a question about all the different types of PVS-14s around- ATN, Yukon etc. Which one is closest to actual mil-spec PVS-14s?

I‘ve had trouble finding a good FAQ covering this, does anyone know of one?

Thanks!

MilSpec PVS-14
The AN/PVS-14s closest to the MilSpec are those built up in accordance with and using the parts listed in TM 11-5855-306-23&P. To get even closer, the image intensifier would have to have a Halo value at or above 1.1mm and the other tube characteristics would have to be at or better than the OMNI VI or VII specifications. That would get you as close as possible to a MilSpec PVS-14, unless you buy one that is Government property, but I would advise against that. I hope that you find this information useful, Ed

What exactly is the "Mil Spec" for the PVS 14?
Hey Ed does the TM cover exactly what the tube spec has to meet?

Tube specifications
The -23&P references the -10 TM for image tube inspection criteria which covers types of defects and their seriousness, but they do not cover the specifications for image tube performance and blem size, location, and number. Those are usually part of the OMNIBUS contract the tubes are manufactured under. Only a few folks in DoD procurement and the OEMs are privy to that information, but it sometimes makes it to the individual OEM’s product brochures. These list their model of tubes and sometime denote the model that meets the MilSpec. I hope this helps, Ed
